Truth
The only original tune written just for this CD, and one of my favorite written with Jon Anderson on guitar. Jon NAILED this tune - aggressive, hard hitting, and a little dark.
She cried, “Boy, I’ve got a tale to share
A circus fills my head, and my dreams are dead
And I’ve lost another day”
Looking back… the hardest cross to bear
The demons make a sound when they hit the ground
He knows they’re on their way
Sinking fast… the final grasp for air
He always tried to hide affection for his bride
And now she’ll never know
The love that’s pure and true
Shots fired… in a world full of pain
Excessive bickering and belittling
The hate lives in his mind
Precious time…the silver lines in her hair
She’ll take the 7:10 somewhere she’s never been
And leave her dog behind
The love that’s pure and true
Man of cloth…the shepherds flock awaits
The dollar takes him well past the gates of hell
His Maker always knew
Gentle hands…. They’ve come to touch the soul
Salty tears to wine, to forgive divine
The love that’s pure and true
The love that’s pure and true
Quarter After Midnight
A daydream about vampires and their twisted nature led to this. Love how it kicks in LIVE. Those funky vocals in the chorus were fun to record, too.
You’ll feel euphoric, one night with me
There’s no name for it, surrounded mystery
You can’t feed me, you shouldn’t even try
Not completely, all your veins are dry
It’s the thrill of the chase
Bringing you to this place
It’s all a part of the plan
So put your soul to the test
And wander into the nest
I’ll work as fast as I can
With wings on my side, I swear I could fly
Like a soul release ride, a spirit in the sky
Injected history, like a planted seed
Tried to cut me, but I will never bleed
Over thousands of years
It’s the darkest of fears
Behind a delicate kiss
And I think that you’ll find
I’m not entirely blind
I will consider your wish
Meet me at Quarter after midnight
Feed your soul to me
You’ll see me at Quarter after midnight
It’s your destiny
Relieve me at Quarter after midnight
Let me fulfill your need
And then leave me at quarter after midnight
I’ll make you plead and bleed
Miles I cover, only at night
I’ll be your brother after every bite
Absorb my power under your skin
Crucial hour, let the spirits begin
In your deepest of dreams
It’s as real as it seems
No one can harbor your fears
So step away from the light
Now it’s that time of the night
The demons call for your tears, OH!
Alone Tonight
Dave Sweeney had part of this tune done, and Jon and I put our stamp on it, and the girls always loved it. And that is what you get into a band for in the first place, isn't it?
Well you walk the streets alone tonight
You meet shadows in the city lights
You always run from what you know is right
And you walk the streets alone tonight
You’re headed for disaster baby
I can see it in your plastic face
Under the cover you feel so afraid
Because you’re headed for disaster baby
Why can’t you see what you’re doing to me
Running away won’t make it right
Lonely days, hearts parting ways
Your tears fall every night
Well I don’t know where you are tonight
Out of my mind, girl you’re out of my sight
And you spread your wing in endless flight
And I don’t where you are tonight
I can’t remember how this came about
What could be so bad that you’d walk out
I want to talk to you but I don’t know how
Tell me what could be so bad that you’d walk out
Why can’t you see what you’re doing to me
Running away won’t make it right
Lonely days, hearts parting ways
Your tears fall every night
Oh, why can’t you see
What you do to me
You Take Me Back
The second song EVER that Jon Anderson and I wrote together. I'm proud that it stuck around with us. I love the melodies on the guitar in this tune.
I still remember those High School days
Thought the fun would never end
You and me took the world by storm
You were my lover and my best friend
Another year goes by, disappears without a trace
When I see you after all these years
Not a single change in your face, no!
Now I’m living a childhood dream
But you take me back to where I used to be
Different cities and separate scenes
I still think of you, baby do you think of me?
In the field behind the school
You gave your lovin’ to me
Little princess and big time fool
We were so innocent and free
Not a day goes by without thinking of your smile
Father time and your tender touch
Have brought me back all of those miles
Now I’m living a childhood dream
But you take me back to where I used to be
Different cities and separate scenes
I still think of you, baby do you think of me?
Do you think of me?
Tell me girl, do you think of me?
Rain
Ah, cool, refreshing rain. It soothes the soul like a weaving melody. Put them both together, and you have this tune.
So lady tell me
Are you alone out in your garden?
And do you feel
The hands of time placed on your head?
Take the changes
Feel your veins begin to harden
Your life upon a shelf
Like you’ve been left alone for dead
And lady, go down and pray for rain
And maybe, the sky will cure your pain
So long ago
An evil scared away your prizes
You long to feel
Your soul, it celebrates the clouds
Looking back
Your life’s a mess of shapes and sizes
Oh, so you pray for rain
And the answer comes so clear and loud
And lady, go down and pray for rain
And maybe, the sky will cure your pain
So lady tell me
Are you alone out in your garden?
And do you feel
The hands of God placed on your head?
And lady, go down and pray for rain
And maybe, the sky will cure your pain
And lady, go down and pray for rain
And maybe, the sky will cure your pain
Wait For The Thunder
Although one of my favorite tunes, not my favorite to record. You see, sometimes I write stuff that is WAY out of my range, and it actually hurts for me to hear myself sing on this track now. But I still like the tune.
I remember being so scared
And I recall what I was told
Just close your eyes after the lightning
And count the miles down the road
Well I guess I liked that answer
Because from then on I could tell
That I was safe from danger
I wish with you it worked as well
When things are getting much too crazy
And the winds are growing strong
You and I will run for cover, baby
And the cold won’t last for long
Wait for the thunder
There’s nothing left to do
Wait for the thunder
I’ll fight the storm for me and you
Wait for the thunder
Wait for the thunder, whoa!
I don’t remember how it started
And I don’t care who’s to blame
I just want you and me back baby
And I’d face a hurricane
Sometimes I’m uninspired
And I know you feel the pain
Inside I know we can’t just count
To kill the wind and rain
I don’t know where we’re going baby
And I don’t care where we’ve been
Because I’d do anything
To have you by my side again!
Wait for the thunder
There’s nothing left to do
Wait for the thunder
I’ll fight the storm for me and you
Wait for the thunder
Wait for the thunder, whoa!
Believe In Me
A heart felt anthem to the ones that you love.
You put your trust in them right from the start
That’s why it cuts so deep when they break your heart
And baby, you can believe in me
Turn on the tube at six, but nothing’s new
Inflation, murder, theft and wrecking crews
But baby, no matter what you see
Oh, you can believe in me
Oh, it should be easy to see
Oh, you can believe in me
You praise your heroes on the movie screen
But they’re living by a script that you’ve never seen
And baby, they never really bleed
When others tell you that they feel the same
Close your eyes and whisper out my name
And baby, they’ll say anything
Oh, you can believe in me
Oh, it should be easy to see
Oh, you can believe in me
So when you’re feeling like you’re all alone
No telling what I’d do to soothe your soul
And baby, I’d climb the highest tree
Busting your ass to get ahead in life
Feels like you’re motionless, your hands are tied
But baby, you’ll come around, you’ll see
Oh, you can believe in me
Oh, it should be easy to see
Oh, you can believe in me
If someone hurts you with their foolish pride
Reach out for me and I’ll be by your side
And baby, you can believe in me
You can believe in my
I said baby reach out your hand
I’ll make you understand
No matter where you go
No matter what you do
Tell ya, baby, you can believe in me!
Edge
This tune ROCKS live. Love it.
Pristine girl, head full of curls
I’m used to loving her for days
She said, “I’m home alone,
I’m tired of the phone
And I’m looking for a better way
What went wrong, my memory’s gone
They said my blood is on her gate
My life is such a mess, that’s what the doctor says
Institution couldn’t set me straight
Just put your foot out on the limb
Let go, you know you’re wild like wind
Voices calling me, demons I don’t see
They’re telling me to set the place ablaze
Just like a high pitch scream
Sneaking in my dreams
I’m living in an endless maze
Jekyll and Hyde, the killer inside
Is coming for me any day
I see her face, heaven and lace
Innocence in every gase
Sometimes I’m hanging by a thread
Her voice is spinning in my head
Edge
They call me crazy
Edge
No more control
Edge
My vision’s hazy
Edge
Losing my soul
What’s in store, don’t know anymore
My head is heavy like a ton
They’re calling me names, placing the blame
Jury eyes in everyone
Living in tears, all of my fears
Have now become realities
Pain and rage, put me in a cage
Lock it up and hide the key
Castles in the Sand
Kind of a more mellow version of the same story that "Dreams Gone By" is based on... that one that got away... Sometimes you work and work at it, and it just isn't meant to be.
Hello girl, it’s been such a while
And time has touched your face with a smile
Our lives have pushed us our own ways
But somehow it feels like yesterday
We used to lie awake at night
And fantasize about our lives
Remember the trouble that we’d find
Your Daddy’s Ford and his cherry wine
Until the morning we would ride
Then we faced your Daddy side by side
We used to lie awake all night
Your arms around me felt so right
Our faith was young, and full of holes
But the morning sun would warm our souls
Oh, you and me built castles in the sand
They’re hard to see
The tide washed away our plans
Well we worked so hard for something
To be taken from our hands
Baby I still see our Castles in the..
Castles in the sand
And who’d have known we’d get so close
You hurt the ones you love the most
We worked a lifetime on this love
But the waves came crashing from above
Oh, you and me built castles in the sand
They’re hard to see
The tide washed away our plans
Well we worked so hard for something
To be taken from our hands
Baby I still see our Castles in the..
Castles in the sand
It’s hard to picture us so young and in command
But I remember this, our innocence and
Castles in the sand
Sometimes I think about the things we used to say
Oh girl I promised you that I’d be here
I’d never go away
And you and me built castles in the sand
They’re hard to see
The tide washed away our plans
Well we worked so hard for something
To be taken from our hands
Baby I still see our Castles in the..
Castles in the sand
